Terms of Service

Last updated 12 October 2026

The short version

ScreenForge is open-source software under the Apache License 2.0, provided as-is. Recording and editing are free; an export license is one key per person, refundable within 14 days. ScreenForge is not affiliated with Screen Studio or Cap.

01Agreement

These terms cover the ScreenForge app, its source repository, the license service and this website. Installing or running the app means you accept them. If you do not, do not use it; as this is open source, you remain free to fork it under its license.

02Software license

ScreenForge is licensed under the Apache License, Version 2.0. That license grants your rights to use, modify and redistribute the software, and it prevails wherever it and these terms disagree. Nothing here takes away a right the Apache license gives you, including the right to build the app yourself.

03Export license keys

04Refunds

Any purchase can be refunded within 14 days. Email license@screenforge.studio from the address you paid with; no reason is needed. The key stops working once the refund is made.

05No warranty

As stated in section 7 of the Apache license, the software is provided "as is", without warranties or conditions of any kind, express or implied. In practice: this is early software. A recording can fail, an export can come out wrong and a project file can be misread. Keep what matters and check exports before you rely on them.

06Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, and as set out in section 8 of the Apache license, Smartloop Inc, the maintainers and contributors are not liable for any damages arising from your use of ScreenForge, including lost recordings, lost or corrupted data, lost profits or business interruption.

07Third-party services

Payments run through Stripe and the license email through Resend, each under its own terms. If a key cannot be issued because one of those services fails, we will issue it by hand or refund you.

08Trademarks and affiliation

ScreenForge is an independent open-source project. It can read and write .screenstudio project files, but it is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Screen Studio or Cap, and includes none of their code or assets. Apple, macOS and Apple silicon are trademarks of Apple Inc.

09Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute is to be brought in the state or federal courts located in California.

10Changes and contact

These terms may be revised; the date above will change with them and the history is public in the repository. Continuing to use ScreenForge after a revision means accepting it. ScreenForge is published by Smartloop Inc. Questions: license@screenforge.studio.
